National Adoption Month: How CASA of Sangamon County Helps Children Find Forever Homes

Updated: Nov 7, 2024

November is National Adoption Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness of the thousands of children and youth in foster care who are waiting for permanent, loving homes. For CASA of Sangamon County, this month highlights the importance of every child’s right to safety, stability, and the chance to thrive in a family environment. Through our dedicated advocates, we work tirelessly to support children through their foster care journey and help them find the stability they need—whether that leads to reunification, adoption, or another permanent solution.

The Role of CASA in the Adoption Process

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Sangamon County serves children who have experienced abuse or neglect and are now navigating the complex child welfare system. Our specially trained volunteers act as a child's advocate in court, offering vital support by ensuring that each child’s voice is heard and their best interests are prioritized. CASA advocates gather information on the child’s well-being, educational needs, and emotional health, helping the court make informed decisions.

During National Adoption Month, CASA recognizes the need for extra support as many children work toward finding a forever family. CASA volunteers provide an added layer of stability and encouragement, especially in challenging transitions, and their involvement has a proven positive impact on the child’s journey toward a permanent, loving home.

How You Can Support CASA’s Mission This National Adoption Month

1. Become a CASA Advocate

The need for more CASA advocates is ongoing. This November, consider becoming a voice for a child in need. CASA volunteers undergo specialized training to prepare them for the rewarding journey of supporting children in the court system. The time and commitment required to be a CASA volunteer are well worth the difference you’ll make in a child’s life. If you’re interested, CASA of Sangamon County offers informational sessions and resources to guide you in getting involved.

2. Advocate for Awareness

Spreading the word about National Adoption Month and CASA’s work helps increase community awareness. Share CASA’s message on social media, encourage friends and family to attend informational sessions, or talk about CASA’s work in your community. Every bit of awareness raised helps us reach more people who may be interested in helping a child find stability and love.

Celebrating Success Stories

This National Adoption Month, we also want to celebrate the inspiring stories of children who have found forever homes with the help of CASA advocates. While each child’s story is unique, the outcome of finding a loving, stable family is a goal we hope to achieve for every child in our care. Each successful adoption is a reminder of what’s possible when dedicated advocates, caring families, and community support come together.
